Data protection is important to us and we respect your privacy. We also believe in showing you advertising that is more interesting to you because it is more relevant. This page deals with how we approach these two issues.
pilot uses a number of technologies that enable us to show you ads that are both interesting and useful to you. You will find those ads not on our website but on various websites of our partners.
In order to be able to show you ads that have the highest possible relevance, we try to detect patterns in your online behaviour that allow us to make educated guesses at what your areas of interest might be. If we know, for example, that your browser has frequently been used to visit sites that revolve around computer games, but never to visit sites that deal with make-up, we are more likely to show you an ad advertising a special offer for the latest computer games than an ad for a kiss-proof lipstick.
We never store information that allows us to identify you as a person (personally-identifiable information or „PII“). We may know that one of the millions of users that we encounter online is probably male, interested in computer games and looking for an MP3-player. We do not know your name, your phone number or your e-mail address.
Our approach to targeting is certified by the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance.
We use so-called cookies to control delivery of ads that are a good match for your areas of interest. Cookies are small text files that your browser stores on your computer and that can, for example, contain a unique id that allows us to recognize your browser if we encounter it more than once.
We always respect data protection laws and guidelines.
If you do not want us to store any information on your online behaviour, you can always let us know. We will then use your cookie to store not a unique id but a lock flag that tells our system that you do not want to be shown advertising that matches your online behaviour.
Below we have listed the names and details of all technical systems used by pilot as part of tracking measures. If wished, you can deactivate the delivery of online behavioural advertising via the respective provider by clicking on the individual opt-out links.
Alternatively, you can store an opt-out a cookie of all technical systems used for online behavioural advertising being provided on the following website of the German data protection council (Deutsche Datenschutzrat) for online advertising:
If you decide to opt-out we will still show you advertising. This advertising will, however, not reflect your interests. Sticking to our previous example, you might miss the special offer for a computer game because we showed you an ad for a kiss-proof lipstick instead.
If you use more than one browser, you will have to execute the opt-out process on each of your browsers, since we have no way of knowing that we are dealing with the same person (or even the same computer).
Also, it is very likely that you will still see advertising that reflects your online behaviour, but this will be advertising from other companies than ours..
If you want to opt-out of targeted advertising from other companies, please go to YourOnlineChoices.eu, the central European page where you can opt-out of targeted advertising from pilot and many other companies.
If you delete your cookies, your opt-out cookie will be deleted, as well, and you will again see more relevant advertising.
